About This Exhibit

The Bruno Elan SRE-3050, launched in 1998, represented American manufacturer Bruno's answer to European design leadership. Based in Wisconsin, Bruno brought American engineering values — durability, serviceability, and generous weight capacity — to a sleek modern package.

The Elan featured a vertical rail design that hugged the wall more closely than traditional stair-mounted tracks. This created more space on the staircase for other family members. The offset swivel seat made entry and exit easier at the top of the stairs.

Bruno also emphasized the serviceable nature of the Elan. Components were modular and standardized, making repairs faster and parts readily available — a particular advantage in the vast American market.

Historical Significance

The Elan established Bruno as a major player in the American stairlift market and demonstrated that US manufacturers could compete on design as well as durability.
