About This Exhibit

The Handicare 1100, launched in 2012, embodied Scandinavian design principles: clean lines, intuitive operation, and thoughtful attention to user experience. Handicare (formerly known as Minivator) drew on decades of experience to create what many consider the archetypal modern straight stairlift.

Every aspect of the 1100 was considered from the user's perspective. The seat height was optimized for easy sitting and standing. Controls were positioned naturally under the fingertips. The folding mechanism required minimal effort and provided clear feedback.

The 1100 also pioneered the "slim rail" concept — a track profile thin enough to preserve maximum staircase width while still accommodating the drive mechanism.

Historical Significance

The 1100 set a new benchmark for straight stairlift design, influencing the entire industry's approach to user-centered design.

Did You Know?

The Handicare 1100's seat was developed with input from occupational therapists to ensure optimal posture and comfort.
